AdviSE 2018

Our 2018 Competitions Director, Nisha Senarath, recounts our inaugural High School Competition - AdviSE a case competition based around a social enterprise. Our AdviSE case competition gives high school students a unique opportunity to compete in teams and engage in meaningful work with an existing social enterprise in the community.

The inaugural SINZ Secondary Schools AdviSE Case Competition was held on the 19th of May. With a wide array of students from different backgrounds signed up to compete, the competition was sure to provide a vast range of thought processes and perspectives....competing teams were comprised of very driven and enthusiastic students...

The competing teams were comprised of very driven and enthusiastic students, ready to tackle the case ahead in front of them.

This year, students were tasked with finding ways to streamline the core message and offerings of Niesh, a venture led and run by students at the University.

...the teams took on board the analysis tips and tricks that were taught the weekend before during a SINZ workshop...

Teams were given 3 hours to analyse the issues at hand and prepare a strategy to help Niesh achieve its goals. We were were ecstatic that the teams took on board the analysis tips and tricks that were taught the weekend before during a SINZ workshop, aimed at preparing them for the competition day.

Each team then had 10 minutes to present their ideas to a panel of SINZ alumni, who then had the hard task of deciding the winner. With so many clever and innovative solutions, the results were a nail-bitter, with EGGS 101 from Epsom Girls Grammar School taking out first place.

To see how much talent these young individuals have at such a young age makes us so excited to see what they will achieve in the future.

As a club we are still in awe of the calibre and creativity of the teams. For a lot of them it was their first time taking part in a case competition, so for them to go out of their comfort zones and do so well is a testament to their abilities. To see how much talent these young individuals have at such a young age makes us so excited to see what they will achieve in the future.
