Kickstart is SINZ's flagship event, a 10-week business accelerator programme. It ran from 2014 to 2017, though it has not been planned for 2018. The purpose of the programme is to provide a platform for students to gain the foundational skill set and knowledge to start their own social enterprise.
Structured as a seed capital competition, teams are required to come up with an idea that delivers a return on investment and measurable social impact. The programme consists a series of workshops ranging from an Intro to Social Enterprise, Design Thinking, to a Pitching session. In addition, participants will receive mentoring and networking opportunities that will give teams the necessary skills to refine their idea.
Upon completion of the programme, winning teams will receive a mixture of monetary and non-monetary prizes, such as further incubation. The capital is intended for teams to use for their pilot operations. Past sponsors include Auckland Council, Joy Business Academy, Xero, and Unilever.
2016's winner, LYFE, aims to build bridges between millennials and a real work force by providing workshops, professional mentorship, and work-shadowing opportunities through company tours.
